# Headshot Cost Calculator

A headshot cost calculator estimates what professional headshots cost from a studio photographer, an on-site corporate photographer or an AI headshot service, using published prices for your city, team size, looks and retouching.

**Key facts:** $0 - No sign-up - Studio, on-site and AI side by side - Every price cited to a published source - Individuals or teams up to 1,000 - Runs in your browser

Updated October 2026

The calculator runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere or stored.

## How to use it

1. **Describe the shoot:** Choose just you or a team (with the number of people), the kind of city you are in, how many looks or outfits you want and how much retouching you need.
2. **Pick the option to price:** Choose a studio photographer, an on-site photographer or an AI headshot service. The estimate updates as you change anything, and all three options are listed for comparison.
3. **Check the method and sources:** Under the estimate you see each step of the arithmetic and the published prices it used, with a link to every source. Take those numbers with you when you ask photographers for quotes.

## What is a headshot cost calculator?

A headshot cost calculator turns a few facts about your shoot into a price range you can budget with. You say who needs photos, where you are, how many outfits you want and how much retouching you expect, and it adds up the published prices for each part of the job.

This one is built on cited data, not guesses. Studio session fees come from Photography Shark's 2026 study of photographers' booking pages in 16 US metros. On-site team rates come from BetterPic's company headshot pricing guide and Bark's price guide. Retouching, extra looks and add-on fees come from Capturely, Scale Headshots and BetterPic. Each estimate shows which of those numbers it used and how, so you can check the arithmetic yourself.

A calculator cannot quote for a specific photographer. Treat the range as a sanity check: if a quote lands far above it, ask what is included; if it lands far below, ask what is not.

## How much do professional headshots cost in 2026?

The national median for a standard studio headshot session in the US is about $250, according to Photography Shark's 2026 city study, and Capturely puts individual studio sessions at $150 to $300. Photography Shark adds that most mid-market sessions fall between $300 to $550.

Price depends heavily on who is behind the camera. Scale Headshots splits the US market into three bands: entry-level photographers at $75 to $250, established professionals at $250 to $1,000, and high-end or branding specialists at $1,000 to $2,500 or more. Most people pricing a LinkedIn or company photo land in the first two bands.

AI headshot services sit far below all of them. Capturely's 2026 cost table lists AI generators at $29 to $79 per person, and the list prices on HeadshotPro, Aragon and BetterPic fall inside that range. You upload selfies, and the service trains a model on them and returns a batch of headshots in a few hours.

## Headshot photography prices by city

Location moves the price more than almost anything else. Photography Shark lists New York City as the most expensive metro at $450 to $900 or more for a standard session, while Phoenix, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio all start around $150.

The calculator groups the 16 cities into three tiers and takes the median low price to the median high price of each group, so one outlier city cannot drag the tier. Premium metros (New York City, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston) come out at $313 to $650 per session. Mid-priced metros (Philadelphia, Seattle, Miami, Denver, Atlanta, Austin) come out at $225 to $475. Lower-cost metros (Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio) come out at $150 to $425.

Smaller towns are not in the study. If you live outside these metros, the lower-cost tier is the closest published reference, or choose "Not sure" to use Capturely's national range of $150 to $300.

## What drives headshot cost

Looks and outfits. A session fee usually covers one look. Scale Headshots reports that every additional look adds to the bill, often $100 or more each, and some photographers package three to five looks at a much higher flat price. If you need a suit and a casual version, price both before you book.

Retouching. Most packages include a small number of edited images. BetterPic puts extra retouched images at $25 to $75 each, and Capturely and Scale Headshots both put advanced retouching at $40 to $100 per image. Advanced work means skin, flyaway hair and background cleanup, not just color and exposure.

Time. Bark's price guide puts headshot photography at $100 to $230 per hour, with an average of $150 per hour. Longer sessions buy more poses and expressions, which matters more for actors than for a LinkedIn photo.

Experience and specialty. Branding photographers who plan wardrobe, locations and a full image set charge for that planning time. Actor headshot specialists charge for direction. A corporate photographer who shoots 50 people in a day charges for speed and consistency.

## Corporate headshot pricing for teams

For teams, photographers usually come to the office and price per person or per day. BetterPic's 2026 company headshot guide gives $125 to $250 per person for 10 to 24 employees, $100 to $200 per person for 25 to 99, and blended costs of $80 to $200 per person for 100 or more. It assumes a day rate of $2,000 to $4,000 plus post-production.

Small groups are priced differently. Scale Headshots reports $500 to $1,500 for an in-office session and $3,500 to $6,000 or more for a full day on-site, and Bark lists corporate headshots at $100 to $200 per person. For teams under 10 people, the calculator uses Bark's per-person range with one in-office session fee as the minimum, because a photographer will not set up lights for less than a session.

The bill is not the whole cost. TeamShotsPro's calculator estimates team quotes at $200 to $500 per person before employee time, travel and usage rights, and it adds the hours people spend away from work and the time someone spends coordinating the day. Those numbers are its own estimates, but the point stands: a shoot day costs everyone's time, and anyone who misses it needs a second date.

## Hidden costs: usage rights, retouching and travel

Capturely lists the add-ons that most often surprise people: setup charges of $200 to $500, advanced retouching at $40 to $100 per image, commercial usage rights at $100 to $500 or more, and hair and makeup at $50 to $200 per person.

Usage rights matter when the photo goes beyond a profile. A headshot for your own LinkedIn page is normally covered. A headshot used in paid ads, on packaging or in a national campaign is a different license, and photographers price it separately. Ask for the license terms in writing before you pay.

Travel is the cost no source in this dataset prices. On-site and on-location shoots often add a travel or location fee that depends on distance, parking and how much gear has to move, so ask for it as a separate line in every quote.

## Questions to ask before you book a headshot photographer

Headshot pricing is hard to compare because every photographer bundles it differently. One quotes a session fee and sells images one by one; another quotes a flat package with a set number of edited photos. Ask the same questions of everyone and the quotes become comparable.

How long is the session, and how many looks does it include? How many final images are retouched, and what does retouching cover? Can I choose those images from proofs, and what does each extra image cost? What license do I get, and does it cover my website, LinkedIn and press use? Is there a travel, location or setup fee? How long until I receive the final files, and in what sizes?

For a team, add a few more. Is the price per person, per hour or per day, and what is the minimum? What happens if people miss the shoot day, and what does a second date cost? Who handles retouching consistency across the whole team? Can new hires be photographed later in the same style, and at what price?

Write the answers next to each quote. The cheapest headline price often turns out to be the most expensive once extra images and rights are added, and the calculator above gives you a published range to hold every quote against.

## AI headshots vs a photographer: the honest trade-offs

Cost is the clear difference. AI headshot services cost $29 to $79 per person (Capturely), against a median of $250 for a single studio session (Photography Shark). For a team, the gap grows with every person, and nobody has to be in the office on the same day.

A photographer still wins in some cases. An actor needs headshots that look exactly like them on the day of the audition, taken by someone who directs expression. A brand campaign needs a specific set, lighting and wardrobe. A person who wants to be photographed, not modeled, should book a session. AI headshots are generated from your selfies, so the likeness depends on the photos you upload, and some results will miss.

For a LinkedIn photo, a resume, a company website or a conference badge, AI is usually good enough, and you can try it for the price of one extra look at a studio. If you go that route, upload sharp, well-lit selfies with your face clearly visible.

## How to save on headshots

Book one look unless you need two. Every extra outfit adds a fee, and for most profiles one strong photo beats three average ones.

Choose your edits from proofs. Ask to see unretouched proofs first and pay for retouching only on the images you will use.

Ask what the session fee includes: how many edited images, which license, how many outfits, and whether travel is extra. Two quotes with the same headline price can differ by hundreds of dollars once the extras are listed.

Prepare before the shoot. Plan your outfit, test your colors against the backdrop and get a good night's sleep, so you do not pay for a reshoot.

For teams, book a full day and put everyone in it, or use an AI service so people who miss the day are not left out.

## Headshot cost for LinkedIn, resumes and company pages

LinkedIn shows your photo as a small circle, so a simple, well-lit head and shoulders shot does the job. A studio session in your city, or an AI headshot, both work; the premium options buy little here.

Resume photos, where they are expected, follow the same rule: neutral background, plain clothing, current likeness. Spend on a photographer only if you also need the photo for a speaker bio or press.

Company pages need consistency more than polish. Matching backgrounds, crops and lighting across a team matter more than any single portrait, which is why companies use one on-site photographer or one AI style for everyone.

## How these estimates are built

Studio estimates start from a session fee: the tier range from Photography Shark's city table, or Capturely's national range when you choose "Not sure". Extra looks are added at the starting price Scale Headshots reports, and extra edits at the per-image rate for the retouching level you pick. For a team, the per-person figure is multiplied by the headcount.

On-site estimates use BetterPic's per-person rates by team size, Bark's corporate rate for teams under 10 with an in-office session fee as the minimum, and Scale Headshots' in-office session fee for one person. City is not applied, because none of these sources breaks on-site prices down by city.

AI estimates use Capturely's AI generator range per person. Looks and retouching are not added, because AI plans are priced by the number of headshots.

Most of these sources are published by companies that sell headshots, including AI headshot companies, so the sources section names who wrote each one. All prices are US prices in US dollars, read on the date shown.

## FAQ

### How much do professional headshots cost?

In the US, a standard studio headshot session has a median price of about $250, and most individual sessions run $150 to $300 (Photography Shark and Capturely, 2026). Big metros cost more: New York City sessions run $450 to $900 or more. AI headshot services cost $29 to $79 per person.

- [Photography Shark: Average Professional Headshot Cost by City: 2026 Data Study](https://www.photographyshark.com/blog/headshot-cost-by-city/)

### What is the average cost of headshots?

The typical US studio headshot costs about $250, the national median in Photography Shark's 2026 study of photographers' published prices. Most mid-market sessions fall between $300 to $550. Bark's price guide gives an average of $150 per hour of shooting.

### How much do corporate headshots cost?

On-site corporate headshots cost $80 to $250 per person depending on team size, according to BetterPic's 2026 company headshot guide, with larger teams paying less per person. Photographers often price the day instead: $2,000 to $4,000 per day plus post-production, or $500 to $1,500 for an in-office session (Scale Headshots).

### How much should a professional headshot be?

For one person, budget $150 to $300 for a studio session in most US cities, plus $100 or more for each extra look and $25 to $75 for each extra retouched image. In premium metros such as New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, plan on $313 to $650. The calculator above adds these up for your city and options.

### How much does a 3 hour photoshoot cost?

At Bark's published rates of $100 to $230 per hour, a 3 hour headshot shoot works out to $300 to $690 before retouching, usage rights or travel. Three hours is long for one person's headshots; it is more typical for a small team or a personal branding shoot, which photographers often price as a package instead.

### Are professional headshots worth it?

Yes, if the photo does real work for you: a LinkedIn profile, a speaker bio, a company page or acting submissions. An actor or executive often needs a photographer who directs the session. For a profile photo, an AI headshot or a well-lit phone photo is often enough, at a fraction of the cost.

### Are AI headshots cheaper than a photographer?

Yes. AI headshot services cost $29 to $79 per person (Capturely, 2026), against a median of $250 for one studio session. The trade-off is control: a photographer directs you in person, while an AI service generates headshots from your selfies, so the likeness depends on the photos you upload.
